The SEAS DTC announces that it welcomes proposals for new research projects in a number of specific areas ranging across its full research remit.
Successful proposals are likely to lead to work commencing during the DTC's fourth year of operation, which ends in February 2009.
Closing Date
The closing date for proposals arising from this call is 27 June 2008.
Eligibility
The call is open to universities, small and medium enterprises, research centres and large companies with relevant, low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) research capability in the areas prompted in the call.
SEAS DTC research work is placed by preference with UK-based organisations, with the exceptions being in circumstances where required skills are not available within the UK.
Duration of Proposed Projects
Proposals of up to two and a half years' nominal duration are welcome; it may be helpful to include a short initial precursor phase as the first part of proposals, as the DTC will often wish to pursue initial investigations before committing to further, longer duration work.
Conditions of Working within the SEAS DTC
Participating organisations gain full funding from the DTC for their research, while retaining ownership of their IPR. The sponsors of the DTC, UK MoD, gain rights of use for internal UK government purposes. The SEAS DTC consortium companies gain rights of use for SEAS DTC purposes. This mechanism leaves research providers free to exploit their research in both military and civil domains. The framework has been created in this manner to attract the best researchers and most innovative ideas towards UK defence research.
Fuller details of the conditions of working within the DTC are in the following document:

Proposal Submission Instructions
Proposals should be submitted to the SEAS DTC Office by 27 June, using the proforma provided below. Note that this proforma is slightly different from that used for previous DTC calls, so it is important to use this version and not an earlier one. Electronic submission by e-mail (to proposals@seasdtc.com) is preferred. The DTC Office will provide confirmation of receipt of proposals.
The proposal form is deliberately fairly simple - where the DTC has a strong interest in a proposal, this will be followed up with the proposer and a more detailed statement of work will be produced confirming technical and commercial details. There is no specific page or word limit for proposals, but one to two pages would be a good guide. Sufficient information should be included, in a concise form, to allow gaining of a good understanding of what research is being proposed and its expected outcomes. More is not necessarily better - a page of clear explanation is preferred to several pages of 'padding'.
The DTC will use best endeavours to deal with any proposals received after the call closure date, but makes no guarantee that such proposals can be considered.
