(2) Review and Planning : The current research work is reviewed in a number of ways as part of planning future direction :

An annual 'Links and Gaps' workshop, run by the Technical Director and attended by customer representatives, reviews the present work and decides on the priority technology gaps in the programme and recommendations for links to be exploited. These outcomes are reviewed by the Requirements Group who will make recommendations on calls for proposals to fill the gaps.

The Research Advisory Board reviews the outcomes of current research, with a particular view to the academic quality of the work. They also bring to bear their knowledge of wider research / other programmes in making recommendations of specific organisations or individuals who should be approached to contribute to the DTC.

Within each research theme, the current work is reviewed by the Theme Leader against the established theme strategy and route maps, and follow-on work proposals are prepared by researchers within the theme. The Theme Leader may also recommend areas as subject for a call for proposals.

Technologies emerging from the research are also reviewed through the Technology evaluation / demonstration work, resulting in evidence supporting assessments of benefits and exploitability.

The recommendations from the Requirements Group, Research Advisory Board and Theme Leaders will result in formulation of calls for research proposals. These will normally be made directly to invited organisations, or may on occasions be advertised more widely through the DTC website and other channels such as the Defence Supplier Service Contracts Bulletin. The calls may be broad calls against a general domain definition, or calls against narrower, more focused areas of interest.
