Mission Planning & Decision Making

The Mission Planning and Decision-Making research theme has the following areas of interest :

Mission Specification : Developing approaches to mission specification, moving away from detailed waypoint based instructions to goal-oriented instructions, aiming to enable an autonomous vehicle to operate from the type of higher-level command statement that might be used to task a manned vehicle. Work to integrate autonomous systems with human elements

Strategic Planning and Optimisation : Determining how best to utilise the available information, imposed constraints, expectations of the way in which the battle-space will evolve to generate a plan for the vehicle(s) to achieve the defined mission. Development of resource-based planning and optimisation of multiple assets including consideration of asset capability, status and health

Tactical Planning and Re-planning : Work to improve reactive re-planning to take account of changes to environment, goals, status, and capability and to assess progress against goals

Collaborative Operation : Development of strategies for effective collaborative operation of multiple assets with no centralised planning and control
