History

The competition for the SEAS DTC was launched in July 2003. The competition resulted in the selection of the consortium led by BAE Systems as preferred bidder in September 2004, which led to the signature of a contract in January 2005 with an industrial consortium led by BAE Systems.

The DTC was formally launched on 2 March at an event at London's Imperial War Museum attended by Lord Sainsbury, the Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation :

The first research projects in the SEAS DTC commenced in
February 2005.
