introduction

What is this DTC about?

The Systems Engineering for Autonomous Systems (SEAS) Defence Technology Centre (DTC) is the fourth DTC to be established by the UK Ministry of Defence. The partners in the DTC consortium are BAE Systems, MBDA, Rolls-Royce, Roke Manor Research, SELEX Sensors & Airborne Systems, CAE (UK). Many other organisations, including smaller research companies and universities, are involved as research providers. (see participants >>)

The SEAS DTC aims to research innovative technologies relevant to autonomous systems, at both whole-system and sub-system level and, through the adoption of Systems Engineering approaches, to facilitate pull-through of technology into military capabilities.

It also aims to learn lessons from the application of Systems Engineering in this context that can be applied more widely to management of research and capability acquisition.

Through fundamental research in the DTC, novel technologies will be developed into system solutions that can be exploited in a new generation of unmanned systems in the land, sea and air domains, a strategically important priority for the MoD. The science will have particular applications in military areas where using autonomous vehicles would reduce the costs or hazards associated with human involvement.
